Fort Pickens...Part 3

History...from what I remember since it has been awhile now is that Fort Pickens was built after the War of 1812 but never used at that point.  It was built by slaves.  It was used by Union Soldiers in the Civil War and then later in WWII large gun/artililary buidings were built in the same area.  The famous Indian Geronimo was held captive at Fort Pickens for awhile and they used him to make money because people would come visit because he was there.  We walked the same hall as he did many years ago. There were many many other facts and historical lessons...the kids did a 9 lesson booklet while there and were sworn in as Junior Park Rangers.  They did a whole swearing in ceremony and gave patches, badges, and certificates to them...very cute!
